Varicose Veins

Varicose veins happen in the veins near the surface of the skin (superficial). The blood moves towards the heart by one-way valves in the veins. When the valves become weakened or damaged, blood can collect in the veins. This causes the veins to become enlarged.

Varicose veins may not cause any pain. Signs you may have varicose veins include: Veins that appear twisted and bulging; they are often like cords on your legs.  When painful signs and symptoms occur, they may include: Burning, throbbing, muscle cramping and swelling in your lower legs.
